Ray Cates is a writer and teacher in Ocala Florida. He has lived in Ocala since 1957. He grew up in Elizabethton Tennessee. He served in the United States Navy and Air Force.
In 1961 he was part of the invasion force at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba.
He graduated from the University of Florida and Blackstone School of Law. He also attended in graduate studies Stetson University and Liberty University.
He taught at the University of Florida as a graduate student. He also taught at Central Florida Community College, Webster College and City College.
Some of the courses he taught were: Para-legal law, family law, business English, freshman English, and creative writing.
